Myanmar Hospitality & Tourism Conference 2017

The gateway to exploring opportunities in Myanmar’s hospitality and tourism sector
Government to continue Tourism Policy of Maximum Growth 15 May 2017

Since the election in November 2015, MHTC 2016 is the first hospitality conference that has shed light on the new government initiatives for the industry, going forward. U Tint Thwin laid out the intention of the government to continue with the tourism policies set by its predecessor – aiming for maximum growth – and will continue to enumerate day-visitors crossing land borders as “tourists”, in contravention of international tourism standards. The government will also be embarking on reforms in the tourism sector and they are working on a new policy to be in line with the recently released national economic policy. U Aung Naing Oo commented that both the private and public sectors will continue to shape Myanmar as a destination of investment, and will be revising initiatives, as well as and the Myanmar investment laws to create a level playing field for both local and international stakeholders.

On Day 1, the conference saw many networking activities and lively discussions surrounding topics such as the leaders’ perspectives of Myanmar in the next 5 years, contract negotiation between owners and operators, discovering the potential of destinations within Myanmar and the various market segments that the industry had to offer. Delegates were also treated to an exclusive networking cocktail session to end the day on a positive note. On Day 2, industry leaders shared insights into the operational aspects of the industry which included infusing Myanmar’s heritage into the architecture of hotels, sustainable hotel business models and an interactive discussion on hotel prices, moving forward.

In our midst were international brands such as Accor, Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, Bangkok Airways, BHM Asia, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, Clyde & Co Clasis Singapore, Colliers, D3 Capital, Dusit, Hard Rock International, Horwath HTL, Movenpick Hotels & Resorts, Pan Pacific Hotel Group, Savills, STR, UbiQ Global Solutions, WATG as well as leading local brands like Aureum Group, Business Alliance Hotel, FMI Air, Golden Brown Coffee Co.
