1. Introduction
As Cambodia’s prime ballooning season begins, Anantara Angkor Resort invites travelers to take flight with an extraordinary hot-air balloon journey in partnership with Cambodia Balloon Adventures. This unique experience unveils breathtaking views of the Angkor complex, best enjoyed alongside a stay at Anantara’s all-suite boutique resort in Siem Reap, just 15 minutes from the UNESCO World Heritage Site Angkor Wat.
2. The Ballooning Season in Cambodia
Running from November to March, Cambodia’s ballooning season aligns perfectly with the region’s dry season, offering clear skies, light winds, and low humidity. These conditions ensure smooth flights and exceptional visibility, revealing the vast landscapes and intricate symmetry of Angkor’s ancient wonders.
3. A Bird’s-Eye View of Angkor
From the sky, the Angkor temple complex unfolds like a celestial mandala—its moats, towers, and forest surroundings bathed in golden light. The balloon’s gentle, whisper-quiet drift provides panoramic views of the Angkor Archaeological Park, including serene rice paddies, traditional villages, and glimpses of Tonlé Sap Lake. Perfect for photography or quiet reflection, this journey captures Cambodia’s timeless beauty in cinematic style.
4. The Flight Experience
Guests lift off at sunrise or sunset from a tranquil countryside launch site. After refreshments and a safety briefing, the flight glides over ancient ruins and green paddies dotted with water buffalo. Depending on wind direction, guests may even pass above an ancient reservoir before landing softly to celebrate with sparkling bubbles.
Each flight accommodates up to eight guests, lasting between 35–60 minutes depending on wind conditions. The adventure costs USD 350 per person, inclusive of hotel transfers, refreshments, and a celebratory drink upon landing.
- Sunrise flights: November to March
- Sunset flights: December and January only
All balloons are registered with the UK Civil Aviation Authority, insured via Lloyd’s of London, and flown by pilots licensed in the UK, EU, and US.
