AMANWANA REOPENS

A PRIVATE ISLAND TO CALL HOME

AMANWANA REOPENS

14 September 2020 - Reopening on 15 September 2020, Amanwana (meaning ‘peaceful forest’ in Sanskrit) is the only resort located on the island of Moyo, a nature reserve east of Bali. Set on a beach overlooking the Flores Sea, the wilderness hideaway framed by 32,000 hectares of protected jungle, offers a full Aman experience where luxury accommodation is found in an all-together off-the-grid location.

Whether on land or at sea, Amanwana provides a mesmerising escape for guests looking to disconnect and reconnect with their natural surroundings and following its reopening this autumn, is now available on a fully exclusive basis.

Just a short yet scenic flight from Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport to Sumbawa, the journey to Amanwana is an experience of its own. On landing, guests are met by the resort team and transferred to a private jetty where a breath-taking boat journey to Moyo Island awaits. With just 12 guest tents, each enjoys its own secluded setting. With jungle or sea views, light-filled interiors, floor-to-ceiling windows and a range of luxury features including deep-soaking bathtubs and open-plan living spaces, the tents offer solace in true Aman style.

When it comes to connecting with the nature that surrounds, the nearby shoreline teams with a kaleidoscopic whirl of vibrant marine life, where world-class diving and snorkelling offers encounters with Hawksbill and green sea turtles, moray eels, lobsters, parrot fish and whales, to name but a few. Above sea-level, watersports include cruising, fishing, SUPs, kayaking and Hobie Cat sailing, whilst Amanwana’s thick tropical canopy extends from the shoreline providing a range of on-land adventures such as waterfall excursions, jungle treks and mountain biking.

Adventure-worn guests can relax and rejuvenate in the open-air, Jungle Cove Spa or indulge in al fresco dining beach-side, with ingredients sourced from the camp’s very own vegetable gardens. Guests are often invited to catch their own fish, or simply enjoy the catch of the day from the local fishermen; a truly organic experience.

A Camp of Your Own at Amanwana

From 15 September, Amanwana will offer a new experience for those wishing to book the camp for an exclusive stay of three or five nights. Offering unrestricted access to the entire island, Amanwana is the ideal escape for groups of friends or family looking to reconnect in a safe, welcoming environment. With a team dedicated to catering to every whim and with an array of activities at its doorstep, the camp offers adventures for all ages, where exclusive access allows guests to uncover all the island’s best-kept secrets.

Discover each and every element of Amanwana’s camp, allowing private use of the luxurious guest tents, Restaurant, Jungle Cove Spa and Spa Tent, beachfront and fleet of boats. Tailor the stay to the preferences of the group, including outings and adventures, visiting educational tutors for “Island Home Schooling” for children, visiting wellness specialist to boost your health and bespoke dining experiences.

With VIP transfer services included, arrive refreshed and ready to explore Amanwana. Fuel-up with breakfast, lunch, dinner and soft drinks included. Dine together or take a time-out from the in-tent mini bar, which is replenished daily.

Each Camp of Your Own stay also includes a group beach barbeque dinner for an authentic island experience, daily snorkelling trips and complimentary laundry (five pieces per guest per day) to ensure a seamless return. To make group stays extra-special, visitors are invited on a waterfall excursion to Barry’s Falls, where a cascading limestone waterfall appears through the forest in an unmissable fairy-tale experience and a guided cave trek, showcasing another of Moyo Island’s hidden gems. In addition, each tent and its guests will receive a couple’s massage to find an equilibrium to the adventure. Those visiting for five nights will also experience a complimentary diving excursion and a traditional family-style Sumbawa Feast one evening.

Incredible Itineraries at Amanwana

Whether looking to enjoy world-class diving, indulge in a range of bespoke culinary experiences, or explore the Flores Sea beyond Amanwana Bay, the resort team delight in arranging tailored itineraries for all. Inviting families to reconnect in a haven of nature and seclusion with a multitude of activities designed for every age, Amanwana’s forest canopy and secluded shores are simply waiting to be explored. Longer curated stays can also be organized, so why not make Moyo Island your family’s own private hideaway for a month.

Begin with unearthing Moyo Island, uncovering every inch of its diverse landscape with family and friends in tow. A guided wildlife trek is the ideal way to find one’s bearings, with exotic wildlife species and endless bird spotting opportunities around every corner. For those who prefer an on-water experience, take a private cruise to Satonda – a volcanic Island with majestic Mount Tambora as its backdrop.

Satonda has a large lake in the centre formed by the eruption of Mt Tambora in 1815 and is home to an abundance of wildlife. It is surrounded by a fringing reef that supports some of the most amazing soft corals in the area. Whilst schools of reef fish, lobsters, moray eels, turtles and nudibranchs are plentiful, keep one eye open on the flat sandy bottom for the large rays that often cruise by. In between dives, energetic visitors can kayak and snorkel before enjoying a breezy cruise back to their island home.

Alternatively, an Amanwana favourite is a trip to Barry Falls. Swim in the pools and laze on the edge while enjoying a light snack, soaking in the peaceful and serene surroundings. After lunch, snorkel the house reef, where uncompromised coral reefs and colourful schools of fish litter the water.

When it’s time to refuel, the traditional dining experience can be seamlessly enhanced for any occasion. From a festive beach welcome dinner to an arrival beach barbeque, guests can relax with toes in the sand and bonfires alight, indulging in true island style. Daily picnics can also be arranged anywhere on the island. Experience a taste of the local cuisine with a variety of flavorful dishes showcasing the spices and produce of the region; a wonderful finish to a beautiful day spent exploring. For an extra-special addition to the evening, why not request a cocktail at sunset for a chance to reminisce on the experiences had and the memories made as the colorful sky transforms to include a myriad of glittering stars.

Spend one final morning paddle-boarding at sunrise, taking in the beauty of Amanwana Bay. No adventure is too big or too small for Amanwana’s dedicated team with bookings available from 15 September 2020.

Aman was founded in 1988 with the vision of building a collection of intimate retreats with the unassuming, warm hospitality of a gracious private home. The first, Amanpuri (place of peace) in Phuket, Thailand, introduced the concept and, since then, Aman has grown to encompass 32 exquisitely serene hotels and resorts in 20 destinations across the world, with a further nine under construction. The next Aman to open will be Aman New York (2020). The introduction of Aman Skincare in 2018 continued the holistic journey beyond the perimeters of Aman’s havens. Offering a soothing journey to a place of beautifully scented repose and respite, Aman Skincare represents the spirit of Aman in a bottle.

In 2020, Aman welcomed a new hotel brand, Janu - meaning ‘soul’ in Sanskrit. Janu offers a unique take on hospitality where genuine human interaction, playful expression and social wellness are at the core of the experience. Janu aims to bring balance to the head and heart and rekindle the soul. Janu launches with three forthcoming hotels which are already under construction: Montenegro (2022), Al Ula in Saudi Arabia (2022) and Tokyo (2022), as well as a robust pipeline of future hotels. Janu Montenegro will be the first hotel to incorporate the brands serviced residence concept, enabling guests to wholly embrace the Janu lifestyle.
